Climate change finally made it into the mainstream media and is constantly playing a bigger role in public and political discourse. Most of the time the discussion is about how we can prevent further warming or how to reverse climate change. While these are the defining issues of our time we think it’s also time to talk about how to adapt for a certain amount of warming because that’s what it is – certain.
Whether we like it or not a very reliable amount of change is already “locked-in” because of the fossil fuels we’ve already burned and the amount we will keep burning until we’re finally willing and able to transition to a sustainable system.
So let’s talk about adaptation.
But not like usually only on a societal, governmental or infrastructure-level. We want to find ways how you and me can adapt our personal lives or how to set up our kids for a better life in the years to come.
Some voices say that talking too much about adaptation could lessen our willingness to de-carbonize our society and address the cause of climate change. We think the opposite is the case. Anyone who is aware of the projections for the emission path that we’re currently on should know that we have to pursue both angles equally in order to have a chance to manage the magnitude of change ahead.
We believe that only a society that’s not in turmoil will be able to address these monumental challenges or will still be capable of working on scientific solutions to fix this crisis. We believe that working on practical, actionable adaptation measures is everyones civic duty and does not negate mitigation efforts.
Our society underwent some major transformations before which were usually not precisely predictable before they happened. Climate change is different. We have very robust models of what will happen and the unique ability to prepare for it.
We’re here to help you make the decisions that will have a massive impact on your quality of life in the not so distant future.
